Posted on Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Question: I am a 53 year old female. I suffered a tumble down the stairs and hit my head 5 days ago. My symptoms have gotten better...headache muscle strain, which I've treated with ice, ibuprofen and rest. But am exhausted with headache, muscle weakness still. I am pretty sure its was a mild concussion and just want to be sure that symptoms can take a while to get better?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms may take time to resolve totally.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Concussion is considered a mild traumatic brain injury.

Post concussion symptoms may appear in the first week after the blow on the head and take time to resolve (usually a couple of months to resolve totally), but there's a gradual improvement during this time.

Since you are feeling better, I don't think you need to worry much more than necessary.

Keep resting for few days, get well hydrated, you can use paracetamol or ibuprofen for headaches.

In case you notice worsening of your codition ( nausea, vomitng, lethargy, worsening headaches etc.) you should get medical evaluation and treatment.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Thank you. That was my assumption, but wanted to check with a professional just in case as I have not experienced this before.
