What Causes Hearing Loss, Swollen Glands And Neck Pain While Treating Ear Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: My5 year old Grandaughter has been experiencing neck pain/swollen glands for weeks. We took her to the doc/he said its a virus... It will pass. Then the fevers started. Also a juicy cough and what we thought may be a sinus infection. We took her back. He said it will pass. 2 days later-we went to urgent care. It was an ear infection in both ears. They prescribed amoxicillin. Done with that. She still has discomfort. Her glands are still swollen. The newest and most alarming: she has been experiencing hearing loss over the last two days that is slowly getting worse. She has an appointment with an ENT on Tuesday. My fear is that if we wait that long-she could loose her hearing all together. I told my daughter to take her in to the Children's hospital this morning to have her ears checked & blood work to rule out mono.... What do you think.?

Brief Answer:
Your grand daughter are most probably having URTI with OME .

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX ,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your grand daughter medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that your grand daughter is most probably having upper respiratory track infection (URTI) with otitis media with effusion (OME). In my opinion , till ENT examination done, consult child specialist for ear check up & get blood test done.

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal rinse or spray thrice daily ,
Antiseptic chlorhexidine Mouth Wash twice daily ,
syrup Xyzal M twice daily &
continue ibuprofen , amoxicillin .

She will get relief .
You will need to see your doctor to get a prescription .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.
