What Causes Heaviness And Pain In Lower Left Jaw While Exercising?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Sep 2015
Question: I always feel left lower jaw heaviness or very minor pain for a seconds when exercising & sometimes without exercising . That's why my family dr told me that he needs to rule our cadiac problems . He also told me that i am still young (36 years) but he need to be sure .
Anyway i did the following cardiac tests & thanks `god all were very normal :
EKG : normal
Stress test : negative ( reached 105 % ) of my target heart rate .
Echocardiogram : normal & the doctor told me that i have a very strong heart muscle (110%) .
My cardiologist & he is one of the best in my country told me to rule out the heart .
but he told me that i am very anxious & maybe it is due to the hight anxiety level i have i also suffer from severe IBS .

But i forgot to tell him that i am suffering from severe disk protrusion c5 & c6 .
Mu question is can the anxiety or disk protrusion be the cause of this feeling ?

Brief Answer:
Cervical disc protrusion is an important clue to consider.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXXX!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that first you should
investigate the implications of your backbone structure disorder on pain symptomatology.

Degeneration of cervical-thoracic backbone structures (disc protrusion, herniation, vertebral degeneration, etc) may lead to severe pain irradiating to the chest, arms and neck, depending on the disc levels affected.

The pain complain may be experienced at rest or physical exertion as well (as physical activity, may trigger such symptoms by imposing an increased tension to affected structures).

Any tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, nortriptyline, etc. could be of help in relieving your pain.

But, first I recommend you consulting with a neurologist for a medical review of your cervical disc protrusion, and deciding the best therapeutic option (medications, physiotherapy, cervical collar, etc).

From the other side, anxiety may precipitate the pain perception, by lowering its sensibility threshold. So, increased anxiety is another clue to carefully consider.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need! Greetings! Dr. Iliri

I have another question
Yesterday i did a fasting blood sugar test with the home device of my dad . Just to check it up for the first time in my life .
It gave me 79 .
My question is why this reading changed after having sex & still fasting (it gave 85 ) ?
Do sex elevate a little bit this reading ?

Explanation as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXX!

I understand your concern, and would like to explain that blood glucose values of 79 and 85 mg/dl are within normal values.

So nothing to worry about!

The fact that your fasting blood glucose is higher after sex than before is explained by two metabolic processes that raise glucose levels (especially on fasting conditions, low-carbohydrate diets and intense exercise [such as sex]): gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. It is quite a normal physiological reaction.

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri

Hi Dr .
I went to neurologist & he advised me to wear a collar & start intensive physiotherapy .
He also told me that i did all the desired cardiac test which was very normal & enough so he reassured me that jaw pain is not related to heart problems but it may be due to disk protrusion , anexiety or due to intense exercising as i told him that i climb up daily 80 floors divided on 8 laps each lap i run up 10 floors which is very intense workout .
Then he asked me if i feel chest pain , sweating cold or difficult breathing & i told him Nothing from that i feel it just the minor jaw pain . Then he asked me to stop think in bad issues as this is a main reason for anexiety & i have to calm down & i am very fine & healthy . Thanks God
Then he prescribed me the physiotherapy treatment plan .
So you were right in your diagnosing .
Thanks

May i ask a last question
Can the exessive workout like run up the stairs cause this feeling ??
How to know that i am exerting myself in training ?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again XXXXX!

You should know that excessive movement can lead to an excessive production of catecholamines in your body, which can mimic anxiety symptoms (difficulty breathing, palpitations, chest pain, sweating etc.).

From the other hand it can lead to an instability of the vertebral column, especially in the regions where it is more vulnerable, leading to exacerbation of your radicular pain.

So I would recommend light and continuous physical activity like walking and aerobics.

You should try to understand that your are overexerting, in the moment when your heart begins to pump harder and the pain starts. In that moment you should stop everything, sit down, close your eyes, take a deep breath and relax.

Hope to have been of help!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri

Answered by Dr. Ilir Sharka (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
The only factor limiting your physical activity is your cervical disc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

There is nothing wrong with your heart. Your heart function seems to be excellent and there are no cardiac limitations to your physical training.

The only problem, which limits your physical activity is the cervical disk problem.

So there is nothing to worry about your heart!

Greetings!

Dr. Iliri
