What Causes Heaviness Between Shoulder Blades When Suffering From Acid Reflux?

I've been suffering from Acid Reflux for the last ten years. There is a distinct sensation of heaviness between my shoulder blades and along my spine and into the back of the neck. I have tried multiple peptic pump inhibitors which certainly relieves the acidity but I can't get rid of the bloatation feeling. I can only describe it like eating lots of dry bread without washing it down with a drink even though drinking doesn't alleviate the problem. I have tried a Barium Swallow meal, several laryngoscopies and everything comes up clear.
Possibly due to Irritable bowel syndrome

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms
I routinely see many such cases. You seem to be having symptoms which can be attributed to acid reflux (Gastroesophageal reflux), but cannot be completely caused by it. As it is responding to acid inhibitor but not completely corrected by it , denoting that pharmacotherapy alone is not sufficient for treatment. Following could be the factors contributing to persistent symptoms
1. Diet factors: Irregular intake of meals, junk food, excessive fat/spices
2. Stress anxiety
3. Hurried eating
4. Alcohol intake
5. Low fibre diet
You seem to be having Irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS )
I would suggest you the following which will definitely help
1. Antacid containing Simethicone which is anti gas agent will be helpful.
2. Empirical treatment with Helicobacter Pylori infection
3. Regular intake of meals
4. Avoid spicy and oily food
5. High fiber diet
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care
Best Regards
