What Causes Heavy Bleeding During The Menstruation?
Endometrial biopsy should be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.I have reviewed all the reports of your mother and they are completely normal, except the ultrasound which shows a small 2 cm fibroid in the posterior uterine wall. This small fibroid is not the cause for the heavy bleeding.
Heavy bleeding during the menstruation is due to many causes like hormonal disturbances, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, bleeding disorders, endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer.Blood and hormone reports are normal. To rule out dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer an endometrial (uterine lining) biopsy should be done and examined histopathologically. It is a mandatory investigation in a female of your mother's age with such symptoms and history of cancer in family.
These diagnosis should be ruled out before performing any surgery because if cancer is there, then only removal of uterus and ovaries is not the complete treatment.
Moreover, if only dysfunctional uterine bleeding or endometrial hyperplasia is there, then there is no need of any surgery in the first go, initially medications are tried and if they fail, then surgery is done.
Therefore, I would suggest you to get her endometrial biopsy done before any such procedure.

You can get it done by a OBGYN specialist
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for responding. Yes, CA-125 is done to detect the ovarian cancer, however it is normal in your mother's case.
Endometrial biopsy is a small minor procedure which is done as an outpatient procedure and do not require any major surgery. You can get it done by any OBGYN specialist.
