What Causes Heavy Menses After Taking Norethisterone?
It can be withdrawal bleeding due to norethisteron
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
This heavy menses can be caused by shedding of endometrial (uterine lining) after stopping norethisterone.
Sometimes it happens when norethisterone has been used for 21 days, when you terminate the drug you have heavy menses.
You should wait and watch for your next cycle because after taking norethisterone in the second cycle may be you will not get heavy menses.
If it continues then you should consult your treating doctor to rule out the cause of heavy menses.
Meanwhile, you can take iron tablets, ibuprofen and trapic- MF for heavy menses.
May I ask one question, why have you been taking norethisterone for 21 days.? ( I guess for heavy flow)
Please revert back to me.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
