What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding While Experiencing Burning Mouth Syndrome?
Question: Hello,
I am a 42 year old woman with very heavy periods, and cramping that I normally did not have. Is this normal for perimenopause, and why is birth control the first line of treatment for this. Isn't this a very unnatural way to treat this? Would a TVU tell me everything I need to know, and should I attempt a low dose birth control? I did have a TVU and endometrial biopsy about a year ago to find nothing. I also am experiencing burning mouth syndrome I think probably because of my hormones.

Explained below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
There are so many causes of your symptoms which is hormonal ( estrogen deficiency),fibroid, polyp, adenomyosis, infection,DUB,endometriosis and cancer etc.
Usually heavy bleeding occur due to unopposed action of estrogen and progesterone that is why we gave hormone as a first line treatment to control bleeding.
You have to go for your bood tests( hb,thyroid profile),pap smear and TVS to rule out the cause.
Otherwise you have to go for hysteroscopy and endometrial aspiration.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.
Regards
