What Causes Hemorrhoidal Pain With Bleeding And Loose Bowels?
complications of hemorrhoids- clot, infection, ulceration
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Hemorrhoids are due to dilation of veins in the anal region.
Bleeding (particularly bright red blood)nand pain are the usual presentation of hemorrhoids but the pain can be intense if there are complications of the hemorrhoids.
Complications of hemorrhoids include: (1) infection (2) thrombosis- this refers to a formation of a clot in the hemorrhoid
(3) ulceration of the hemorrhoid
Diarrhea or loose stools can cause or worsen hemorrhoids.
If the pain associated with these hemorrhoids is worse than with previous episodes then you may need to be seen to rule out a complication
If this is not the case then treatment consists of: (1) avoiding prolonged standing or sitting
(2)anti inflammatory pain medication if these can be used eg naproxen or ibuprofen
(3)topical pain killers such as lidocaine cream and a short course of mild topical steroid to decrease the inflammation
eg hydrocortisone
(4)sitz baths, 2 to 4 times a day for 15 to 20 mins in warm water, this helps reduce swelling and pain
Salt or epsom salt can be placed in the water
(5)when cleaning after a bowel movement, dab, don't wipe, this reduces trauma to the area
