My wife is in 28th week in pregency. In the 7th month growth scan it was noticed that Amniotic fluod is high upto 24cm. Her blood sugar is fine. What are the reasons snd whst should we do now.
Various causes of increased amniotic fluid
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Increased levels of amniotic fluid around the fetus can be due to diabetes in mother, any congenital anomaly in fetus like esophageal atresia, fetal infection like toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, fetal anemia or idiopathic( in which no cause is found in mother and fetus).
If the blood sugar levels of your wife are normal, then the diabetes is ruled out.
Fetal anomalies are generally ruled out in anomaly scan done at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy, therefore most probably they might have been ruled out in her case also.
She should get her TORCH test to detect if any fetal infection is present.
If all of these are ruled out, then the increased amniotic fluid has idiopathic cause.
She should rest, avoid heavy strenuous work and get her ultrasound every2 weekly to assess the level of amniotic fluid and the fetal well being.

Chances of preterm not high at this AFI
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Chances of preterm delivery at Amniotic fluid index of 24 are not high, as the normal range of AFI is 8-25. and therefore its just borderline and is still not in the category of increased fluid, or Polyhydramnios.
I suggest you not to worry, and get follow up ultrasound2 weekly to assess the AFI.
Chances of survival of a newborn after28-30 weeks of pregnancy is fair if the delivery takes place in a hospital with expert neonatal team and a good NICU.

No natural method to reduce the fluid
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
It is unlikely that the fluid level will decrease on its own.
However, it can remain at this level or increase.
If it increases, your OBGYN specialist may give the medications to reduce the fluid or may take out fluid by a needle, depending upon the level of fluid.
There is no home remedy to reduce the fluid.
The precautions she should take is to avoid any heavy work and consult doctor immediately in case of pain ,leakage of fluid or any bleeding.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
