What Causes High Pulse Rate?
Question: Dr. Varshney,
Thank you for answering my questions. I have another one regarding same patient. It was 2 episodes of very high pulse: 130-140. One was on Sunday at home and another one happened on dialysis. They stopped dialysis 8 min. earlier. Any ideas?
Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome again.
See, Tachcardia (Pulse rate>100 / minute) in a patient on dialysis can commonly be due to any of the following reasons:
1. Hypoglycemia or Hypotension.
2. Arrhythmia as a result of cardiac issues (common in CKD patients).
3. Arrhythmia due to hypocalcemia.
I want to know the following:
1. Tachycardia happened spontaneously?
2. In how much time did it get back to normal?
3. Any chest pain or breathlessness?
4. Any hypotension?
5. What are her current Serum Calcium and Albumin levels.
6. They must have got an ECG done at that time, please attach.
7. Give me details of how the event happened, what problem she felt and how the event got terminated?
Stay Healthy.
