What Causes High Vitamin B12 Levels In A Eosinophilic Esophagilitis?
Eosinophilic esophagitis is the probable cause of high vitamin B 12
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for positing your query on HealthcareMagic.
Elevated levels of vitamin B 12 are seen in many conditions like liver diseases, kidney failure, hematological malignancies like chronic myeloid leukemia, polycythemia, hypereosinophilic syndrome.
As you have mentioned that your CBC report and liver functions have come back normal, the possibility of hematological disorder or liver disease is ruled out.
Presence of eosinophilic esophagitis is the probable cause of high vitamin B 12 since high levels of vitamin B12 are associated with hypereosinophilic syndrome.
Thus, the management of underlying cause i.e. eosinophilic esophagitis needs to be done to control the levels of vitamin B 12.

My son has had Eoe since birth and only within the last three years has the levels gone up. When I researched hypereosinophilic syndrome Eoe is not listed as a subset or type. His Gastroenterologist has never associated any of the two together. Is there a updated list of hypereosinophilic syndromes.
Thank you, XXXXXXX
There is no other potential cause of elevated vitamin B 12
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The manifestations of hyper-eosinophilic syndrome are due to chemical mediators released by eosinophils.
Eosinophilic esophagitis is characterised by infiltration of eosinophils in esophagus. Eosinophilic esophagitis may or may not be associated with elevated eosinophils in blood.
High levels of vitamin B 12 can be stimulated by eosinophilic chemical mediators infiltrating the esophagus and thus the relation.
