What Causes Horse Voice And Heart Palpitations After Having Lotrel?
Question: I have been on Lotrel5/10mg since 1992. Recently I AM HOARSE, frequently I have palpitations, nervous , shaky. My PCP DOES NOT HAVE ANY opening to see me till sometime in February. What do IDO?

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. The medications you are taking are not known to cause these symptoms.
2. I can think of two common causes
a. Thyroid disorder: It can present with similar symptoms, specifically hoarseness of voice, palpitations and psychological symptoms. An evaluation of thyroid hormone profile is essential. Additionally you might have weight disturbances or feeling or hot or cold.
b. Gastro esophageal reflux disease: Due to reflux of acid, laryngeal irritation can cause hoarseness. Gastritis can present with palpitations and nervous symptoms, which can also exacerbate further. You will need to take pantoprazole with domperidone if you have abdominal pain and acidity feeling.
3. However, hoarseness at this age needs to evaluated seriously, to rule out local problems. Laryngoscopic examination is essential. Hope you are not a smoker.
Try to meet your doctor at the earliest to get the tests done. Along with it, a complete hemogram for evaluation of anemia and ESR evaluation is necessary.
Tests necessary:
a. thyroid hormone profile
b. complete hemogram
c. laryngoscopic examination.
