What Causes Increased Urination In The Night?
Question: I am a female 63 years old and in great health other than I pee normally during the day but wake up every hour during the night and have to pee and only go a tiny bit....is this a urinary infection

If an infection was present the symptoms would be present both during the day and night, they would not occur dominantly during certain time periods.
Though urinary frequency is most commonly due to an infection, there are other causes as well.
Nocturia is the term used to refer to increased urination at night
The causes of nocturia are: (1) infection but this would cause daytime symptoms usually
(2)bladder prolapse- this is common in women. The muscles and ligaments that support the bladder weaken and this causes a shift in position of the bladder
(3)mass in the urinary tract,may be benign
(4)excess intake of fluid, caffeine or alcohol
(5)heart or kidney disease can also cause this problem as well but in the case of heart disease the person would have additional symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath
(6)stone in the bladder
These are some of the more common causes, if it continues, then you may want to consider seeing an urologist for assessment and treatment.
This would consist of physical examination, urine analysis. A 24 hour urine collection may be needed
Bloods to check kidney function may be requested.
