Brief Answer:
One needs to have stable thyroid levels to get back to normal, 4-6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care magic, I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely, I understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.

Time taken by a patient to get back to normal after a thyroid removal depends upon for how long the thyroid profile is back to normal, usually it takes about 4-6 months with normal thyroid levels to get a patient back to normal life both physically and symptomatically.

So currently the most important thing in case of your wife is to make sure that her thyroid profile stays within normal limits, as time passes her symptoms will go away and she will start feeling normal yet again. If her thyroid levels are not normal or they keep on fluctuating then getting her back to normal will get difficult and delayed.

Usually it takes some dose adjustments on trial and error basis and regular follow ups with doctor to adjust the dose of medicine and once it get's adjusted then one just has to maintain a steady thyroid level to get back to normal. If your wife has stable thyroid levels then you can hope that gradually she will get back to normal in near future, it take long.

I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I am happy to answer you.
Regards.
