What Causes Intermittent Nose Bleeds After A Head Injury?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My son fell and hit his head causing him to fall out for only a minute during a field trip Thursday. They did not call ems. He has been fine, not having any symptoms, we've been monitoring him closely. Friday, he apparently had a nose bleed on the playground, not telling anyone. Then today, Sunday, had another nose bleed. Could there be more of a serious problem?

Brief Answer:
Best to consult a physician.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there was no immediate nose bleed then any internal head injury is not likely. If you can consult a physician easily then it is best to get him examined for any neurological deficits. You can also self monitor him for any deterioration in the symptoms like unconsciousness, severe headache, blurred vision, bleeding from eyes, nose or ears, vomiting, etc in which case you need to rush to ER immediately.
The bleeding from nose that he had can be due to dryness of nose or a local injury. If both these causes are ruled out then do consult a physician for detailed examination.
I hope this answers your query.
