Diverticulitis

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear about your aunt who is traveling in Germany and diagnosed with a gut infection and GI bleeding. More than likely she has diverticulitis. This is a GI infection of the lower colon with infection and bleeding. If caught early enough and treated with antibiotics they can stop the bleeding and infection. If it does not get control with the antibiotics she may need a surgery to bypass the area infected. But most people are able to improve just with the antibiotics and bowel rest. This is very common and not unusual.
