What Causes Irregular Periods?
Question: I am an 19 year old female. My periods are very irregular. I get them 2-3 times a year. I recently went to the doctor and got treated for chlamydia. The doctor did some thyroid testing and blood tests and said that everything is normal. So if that is normal, what could be the other reasons of why I have irregular periods?
Brief Answer:
Polycystic ovary or overweight
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I understand your periods are irregular.
Most common cause of irregular periods in your age group is a condition called Polycystic ovary. Please get an ultrasound scan done to identify the same.
Another common reason is overweight. What is your current weight and height? You need to lose weight if you are overweight.
If I were your treating doctor, I will encourage you to lose weight and order for ultrasound scan. If you have already had a scan performed, please let me know the results.
