Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: My daughter was in an automobile accident approximate 20 years ago in which she sustained a head injury. She was unconcious for a few minutes. About 6 years ago she started drinking excessibly to the point where now she is drinking all the time. She has become very irritable, ang very depressed etc etc. My question is, Is it possible that she might have an internal injury that is causing her to feel the way she does and cause her to drink to the point where she might black out?

Brief Answer:
head injury unlikely cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

I can understand your concerns for your daughter.

I donot think head injury 20 years back can cause your daughter to drink excessively.

Head injury can be a cause of behavioural problems like irritability, anger and depression.

However, i would still suggest you to go for an MRI brain of your daughter to rule out possibility of brain lesion.

I would suggest you to consult a psychiatrist for de-addiction management plan.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.
