What Causes Itching On The Forearm?

Question: 64 year old white male: s/p CABG, HTN, Type II DM.
No changes in meds, soaps or surroundings has had Shingles vaccination
Onset of symptoms 6/30/2017
Severe bilateral forearm itching, treated topically with OTC hydrocortisone cream. Blisters developed on left arm but not the right. Severe itching continues with more tiny blisters. Cream DC'd today. Truck driver and will not be in to see our primary doc. Please advise.

I do understand your concern,

With such a presentation in my clinic, I would first rule out shingles by doing a physical examination only. Please try to remember if you have taken vaccination in the past for shingles then we can say that you will not face this infection in future so for this reason.

You may be advised one antiviral course [Acyclovir] and add [Capsaicin] cream for pain and use other medications as usual. Both medications will be prescribed by your local doctor. It's important that you see any local physician(not necessarily primary care provider) for this purpose.
