What Causes Itchy Rash While On Vesicare And Omnic Ocas?
Question: My father (77 years) started using the following medication recently as prescribed by his Urinary system specialist:-
1) VESICARE [Solifenacin Succinate 5 mg]
2) OMNIC OCAS [Tamsulosin HCI]
he was also been taking the below medicine from long time - I month or more:-
3) Voltaren Retard 100 [Diciofenac. natr.] - for his bad knee pain and helped reduce the number of visits to the toilet.
Immediately after that he developed rash and itching all over his body - he tells me that the specialist gave him a free sample of one of the first two which was expired or nearing expiry - he is not sure which one.
are this skin reaction related to any of these medications ?

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX for your follow up about my muscular (chest) pain - it is better but becoming more like an external skin itch (discomfort) not more - I am not using the gel a lot - but I feel it is going away slowly.

2. What is the expiry date mentioned on the strip and till which date he had taken the last tablet. HE IS NOT SURE AND HE THREW THE STRIP AWAY.
3. He developed rash how many days back? 5-6 DAYS

Brief Answer:
Attach photograph.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Any drug rash can appear between immediate consumption to 6 weeks. This seems to be a drug rash.
The most common drug causing this is Diclofenac.
However I would be able to discuss with a dermatologist if you could attach a photograph of the rash or lesion.

Yes - I will try to send you a snap shot when I meet with him this evening.
About the Diciofenac - it could be the cause - he started taking this medicine originally more than a month ago occasionally for his inflamed bad knee and when he noticed that (as a bonus) it is also reducing his need to go to the bathroom - he continued using it everyday.
I think this is the drug that is causing his itching - I will ask him to stop using it (being used once daily) and see what happens.
Is that ok Dr ?

Brief Answer:
Diclofenac should be stopped.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
See Diclofenac is not at all a good drug. It should be used only for short treatment only.
Using it for long can cause stomach ulcers, liver and Kidney Dysfunction.
And yes it can be the offending agent causing the damage.
In my opinion for knee pain that is Osteoarthritis, one should do knee strengthening exercises and apply local Diclofenac gel on joints instead if taking that orally.
I would advice to take Tramadol or Paracetamol for pain instead of Diclofenac.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
