What Causes Jaw Pain Post Root Canal Treatment?

nerve pain
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Often when work is being done in preparation for getting a crown, the nerves become irritated. This may not manifest right away, but can occur at any time. I can not explain why this would occur later in the day, unless it is because you are irritating the nerve as you eat and chew during the day, then it just flares up at night. Once the permanent crown is placed the nerves usually calm down and the pain resolves. Medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can give you some relief from this pain if you are able to take them. In some cases it can take several weeks or even months for the nerves to calm down fully after the permanent crown is placed.
I hope this pain resolves soon.
