What Causes Kidney Atrophy?

Hi and welcome to HCm
Detailed Answer:
Most common cause of kideny atrophy is reduced blood flow through artery that supplies kidney. This artery is called renal artery and can be obstructed with atherosclerotic plaque. This is seen in older people who suffer from atherosclerosis. This vessel obstruction can be detected only with CT angiography, not US. Treatment is difficult but in most cases not neccesary since other kidney will take all function. Kreatinin is eleavted because of same reason. This cant lead to cancer,it can lead to kideny non-functioning but this size is still not critical. As a treatment, antiagregatory therapy can be used, and in some cases surgical or radioangiologic procedures can be used-but only if another kidney is abnormal too. You should just have frequent follow ups at this point and do CT angiography in future. Wish you good health. Regards
