What Causes Kidney Stones When Diagnosed With Adenomatous Polyposis?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
XXXXX
kidney stones do increase after intestinal surguries
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Colon resection and ileostomy form uric acid stones, as loss of bicarbonate in the ileostomy effluent leads to formation of an acid urine and uric acid precipitates to form stones.
also these surgeries influence amount of urine and concentration of calcium phosphorus, oxalate and citrate in the urine and can contribute to cause kidney stones.

It will give you some insight into the causes of stones in these patients.
so to prevent stones we need to find out the metabolic defect.
generally we will do a battery of tests including 24 hrs urine calcium, phosphorus, citrate, oxalate and uric acid. blood and urine PH and urine routine examination.
If kidney functions are normal then increasing water intake and use of potassium citrate under guidance of your doctor will definitely reduce the occurrence of stones.
Best wishes.
