What Causes Knee Pain?

This is XXXX from Happiestminds technologies, I have a mild pain at my right knee cap. Its there since one month. I think the reason for this is, I had gone to play cricket a month back after a period of two months break and I was not wearing shoes on that day. after the match I felt some kind of pain at my knee caps (both). but currently its only on my right leg. Its not that much paining, as I can walk and take stairs. To test it, I tried keeping my right palm on the knee cap while walking, I can sense some sort of granular movement in there. can you suggest me the kind of medication or steps that I should take up to reduce the pain and recover from it ?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
After going through the whole description especially the activities you can do, the pain has its origin at the under surface of knee cap or patella. For this my advice would be –avoid (temporarily) sitting cross legged; squatting will decrease the pain. Exercises like quadriceps strengthening, swimming; straight leg rising will help in improving the muscle strength around the knee and will help in decreasing pain.
My advice would be take glucosamine for your knee osteoarthritis, the recommended dose of glucosamine sulphate is 1500mg and chondroitin sulphate is 800-1200mg daily in divides doses. Glucosamine by nutralite is a good brand and with balanced composition. This is usually given for 3 months and then 6 months off after there is symptomatic improvement. This is not a pain killer so additional medicines are required for pain control and optimum joint activity. You may have a few days
Course (5-7 days) of drug diclofenac under medical guidance.
If the pain does not get reduced by 3-4 weeks time then you may get MRI to know the exact cause of your suffering.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards
Take care
