What Causes Late Periods, Mood Swings And Tender Breasts?
Question: Im 48 years old and had my period for 12 days last month. I was suppose to get my period on the 10th of this month and it never came. meanwhile, i've been experiencing mood swings, been very irritated and emotional... my breast are tender and I feel like I always have cramps. been having to urinate a lot, Kinda feeling like my period is going to come but doesn't. I took two pregnancy tests and both negative. I've spotted a couple times out of the clear blue thinking I was going to get my period but it never comes. Also, after intercourse or even just after an orgasm after clitoral stimulation, I bleed a little bright red and some small clots. What could this be?

Hello, these syptoms of mood swings and breast tenderness along with irregular and heavy periods are suggestive of perimenopausal transition.
It is very important to get a transvaginal ultrasound from an experienced radiologist to see for endometrial thickness and ovarian volume.
Also get the following blood tests - FSH, Fasting blood sugar, thyroid hormone levels and complete blood counts.
We can discuss further management after the test results.

What about the bleeding after intercourse or just from having an orgasm from external stimulation? could this also be caused from perimenopause?
Brief Answer:
transvaginal ultrasound
Detailed Answer:
These are most probably due to endometrial shedding in between due to increased thickness of endometrium because of irregular cycles.
That is why I have asked for a transvaginal ultrasound which will give me desired information so as to delineate the cause but in case everything comes out to be normal then you will need per vaginum examination by a gynecologist and even hysteroscopy to see for Any growth in lower genital tract which could have led to excessive bleeding in previous cycle and intermenstrual spotting in this cycle.
Take care.
