blepharospasm.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic
Iam Dr. DADAPEER, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
It seems from the history that your mother who is 46 years old is having increased blinking or spasms of blinking. This is called as blepharospasm. It is basically of two types, essential blepharospasm and reflex blepharospasm.
Since your mother is not having any other complaint other than increased blinking as mentioned by you, it appears like essential blepharospasm. This is usually caused by contractions of the muscles of the eye lids in middle age or elderly aged people. Most of the times no underlying cause will be found.
The treatment is by applying
cold compression to the eyelids. If the problems is severe causing problems the treatment of choice is use of Botulinium toxin injection.
The reflex blepharospasm is seen secondary to eye diseases like inflammations, infections, foreign bodies... This is common and will present with symptoms like pain,
redness, watering... Since your mother is not having these symptoms this is unlikely to be present in her case.
Hence I can advice first to use cold compression and
artificial tears eye drops. If the symptoms are not responding she needs eye examination by a ophthalmologist to rule out reflex blepharospasm. If it is essential blepharospasm and causing too much of problems she may require treatment by use of botulinium toxin injection.
Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
Thank you
