Brief Answer:
What was the causative factor?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short.

To recapitulate: Male/59 - icing for the swelling and pain on the top of left hand.

Please give additional information for me to assist you further:
- Since when has this happened?
- Was there any history of trauma, insect bite or otherwise?
- Any other relevant history.

Elevation of the hand above the heart level in lying down position is the best way to reduce the pain and the swelling.
Take some anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen if it suits you.
If there is an infection you need to take an additional antibiotic too.
If there is an insect bite you may need an additional antihistamine and may be oral steroid if not diabetic.
If there is a trauma go for an X-ray of the hand in 2 views.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to give feedback and ask for relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
