What Causes Left Sided Chest Pain Below Collar Bone?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Jul 2014
Question: hi

problem - pain on left side above the chest exactly 3 -4 inches below the collar bone. and 2 to 2.5 inches left of center of the chest. its a very mild pain I have been suffering from a week or so.
the pain can be felt if I press there with my hand. and it is spread - I know this when I press from the area above the nipples till the collar bone that area relaxes.

my guesses of the cause.

1. I sleep upside down mostly lying on my right side so the left side is streteched.
2. I take calls in office for almost 1.5 - 2 hrs daily frm my right ear. considering this my next js stretched to right.

history -

I am obese, 112 kgs 6.1 tall. I was operated with csom 12 years back in my left ear. if u see previous questions mi have been suffering from bronchitis on and off these days. I had high cholesterol earlier ict nov 2012. it was 200 in XXXXXXX march I remember. my regular diet is nt high in quantity. normal north XXXXXXX food with almost no oil.

I run for an hour without any hastle atleast 3 times a week..
I drink once a week since last 3 weeks. otherwise alcohol intake is once or twice a month.

Brief Answer:
musculoskeletal.NSAID+MUSCLE RELAXANT.ECG,BP,LIPID

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the query and understood your concern.

Looking at the presenting illness, the cause of pain may be due to musculoskeletal pain which may occur due to overuse or abuse or any injury. This will be recovered by using NSAID like aceclofenac with muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone or tizanidine. Application of topical analgesic cream will also help you. Along with this you should give rest to the area. Limit work or reduce strain to that group of muscle.

With the history of obesity and high cholesterol levels I just want to make sure the above diagnosis. So get done ECG and check for BP once to ruleout any cardiac problem. Continue your exercises 5 days a week and less carbohydrate and less oil diet. Monitor your sugar and lipid levels regularly. Have plenty of fluids.

I hope this information helps you and answered your question. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
continue same treatment. Life style changes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

BP variation between 120/80 to 140/90 is acceptable and continue the same drugs for its management.
You should reduce your weight and monitor lipid profile. The BMI should be less than 25 or the weight should be around 80 kg. Regular outdoor activities (30 min every day for 5 days a week) like swimming/cycling/aerobics /jogging will help you along with diet.

Hope this information answered your query and helps you.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Tizan, Hifenac MR . Discuss with doctor/pharmacist

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Just high cholesterol does not cause pain but if any atheroma causing obstruction in blood supply can cause pain. But this needs evaluation to diagnose the cause. Raised LDL can be treated with statin group as hypolipaedemic drug and with life style modifications.

The local names for muscle relaxants with NSAID are Hifenac MR, Tizan etc. You can discuss with you doctor or pharmacist for the available drugs.

You can try uploading in the space provided as am more accessible here than my XXXXXXX If unable you can send to my mail id YYYY@YYYY .

Brief Answer:
chest xray. life style modifications

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the attachments. With them your kidney, liver, blood sugar and lipid profile are in good control excrpt slight variation in LDL. No specific treatment is required for that. Just lifestyle modifications will help you.

The haemogram has shown raised lymphocytes. This will rise in viral or granulonatous infection. Since you have chest pain better to get done chest xray PA view just to rule out any infection. Bronchitis can cause pain but the raised lymphocytes is of little concern. It may be of no value as the total count is normal.

I hope this information helps you. Get done chest xray once and if any problem we can discuss for its management. .

wish you good health.
