What Causes Left-sided Pain In Lower Abdomen?
Question: I have had pain in the left lower abdoman for about 6 days. Doctor is not in- hard to walk and stand up.
I had a full hysterectomy 13 years ago. Could this be a hernia?

Lower left abdominal pain can be caused by several reasons including diverticulitis, left inguinal hernia, urinary tract infection.
Diverticulitis is a condition caused by diverticle inflammation. Diverticle is a kind of pouch in the intestinal wall. Such pouch appears when the pressure in large intestine is constantly high. This happens when you have constipation or push hard on stool. If a piece of stool stuck in such pouch, inflammation appears. Other possible symptoms of this issue are blood in stool, mucus in stool, bloating. Please push gently the painful area and release the pressure suddenly. If the pain is worse when releasing the pressure, diverticulitis is very probable.
Inguinal hernia gives pain in a groin. There might be a lump present in the painful area. The pain should get worse when coughing or lifting heavy objects.
Urinary tract infection gives also frequent urinating, burning while urinating, back pain.
I suggest you to consult your doctor and have abdominal ultrasound and blood work done at first. Colonoscopy should be considered.
