What Causes Light Pink Bleeding From Vaginal Area In An Elderly Patient?
Details below.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Since how long you have this bleeding? Do you have any discharge or itching? Are you on any medications like Tamoxifen?
The vaginal bleeding at this age can be due to vaginal mucosal atrophy ( thinning of mucosa) due to estrogen deficiency, infection, cervical polyp, endometrial polyp ( overgrowth of lining of uterus) or thickened endometrium (lining of uterus).
What did your doctor say after the check up? Was there any cervical polyp?
Sometimes ( 1 in 10 chance) bleeding in postmenopausal women is due to cancer. This bleeding is of concern because of this. Therefore it is extremely important that you get an ultrasound of uterus and ovaries done at the earliest along with endometrial biopsy to make sure that it is not cancer.
I don't wish to scare you. But I have to tell you the facts.
I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Hi,
Welcome back.
I empathize with you.
Normal Pap test recently is a good news to some extent.
But ultrasound and endometrial biopsy are the diagnostic tests to rule out endometrial cancer. So get them done at the earliest.
In 9 out of 10 cases the post menopausal bleeding is not due to cancer. I pray that you are one among this group of women.
Keep me updated about your follow up.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
