What Causes Loss Of Weight In First Ten Days Of A Preterm Baby?
Breastfeeding will help gain weight
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
Following birth any baby either term baby or preterm baby looses 10 percent of body weight in 1st ten days of life. After this there is steady gain in weight.
Preterm baby as in your case there is usually catch up growth and weight will start increasing. The blood reports are normal and there is no cause for concern.
I would suggest you the following:
1. Ensure good intake of feeds : If the breast milk is adequate then either direct breast feeding or feeding the baby with expressed breast milk is advisable. Feeding should be on demand, sometimes the baby may want feed even after one hour. Capacity of stomach is 10 ml per kilogram of body weight, so the quantity of feed per feed should be atleast 15 ml. It can be slowly be increased.
2. Addition of Medium chain triglycerides : 4 to 6 drops of Simyl MCT drops can be added in feeds in consultation with your baby's Neonatologist.
3. Ensure adequate breast milk : Proper intake of fluids and food is important for mother to maintain milk output. Capsule Lactare for mother will help increase and maintain lactation. Also do add dried dates (Khajoor) in diet of mother.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care

Continue giving feeds using spoon
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
Every baby has unique sleeping pattern. Some babies are active during night and sleep during day. If the baby is sleeping for 7 to 12 hours a day that is sufficient sleep.
Continue giving feeds using spoon or even traditional XXXXXXX paladay ( spoon used to feed newborn ) can be used. Adding medium chain triglycerides will be helpful.
