What Causes Low Ejection Fraction?
Angiography will tell about pumping and structure detail.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX AGRA86,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
It is understood that by doing echocardiography your father has been found to have LVEF of about 35 percent. This needs to be verified by doing a detailed investigation.
Please find my observations below
1. Angiography is an invasive test done in XXXXXXX lab while MUGA (MUltiple Gated Acquisition scan) is a test done by tagging the red blood cells with Technitium radioisotope material.
2. While angiography and MUGA both are accurate in confirming the EF (ejection fraction) however angiography will also give information on the structures of the heart. MUGA will give only the EF with high accuracy.
3. If your doctor wants to know the EF and other details concerning the structure of the heart then angiography is better.
4. To know only the pumping activity of the heart with accuracy then MUGA scan is better.
I think his doctor wants to know more about the heart rather than only pumping function. You might request a discussion with the doctor and then decide.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
