What Causes Low Grade Fever After MMR, DTaP And Flu Vaccinations?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Dec 2015
Question: My 4 year old daughter had her pre-k immunizations last Thursday: MMR, Dtap and flu. Thursday night and Friday night she presented with a low grade fever. Last night she started complaining of leg pain. The pain got worse throughout the day today and she can no longer put any weight on it. It does not hurt to touch or bother her while sitting still but she can't stand or walk. No redness or swelling. Could this be related to the vaccines? Growing pains? Planning to see her ped tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Probably not related to the vaccination

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.

Although the low grade fever seems to be linked to the vaccines, I doubt whether there is any relationship of the leg pain with the vaccination. The causes may vary from some localized infection of soft tissue or bone, to some growth or tumor. A growing pain is unlikely to be so debilitating. A proper clinical examination is required and indeed seeing your ped should help.
