What Causes Low Haemoglobin Count?
Need to see reports.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
The two most common types of anemia encountered in females are Iron deficiency anemia and Vitamin B12 anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common variety.
Without seeing the reports it would be like giving a wild guess.
So revert with the reports for a better comment.
Now since they called her again for further testing then there are two possibilities. Either they saw any atypical cell in blood count so they want to confirm it or the second possibility is that they wanted to evaluate her anemia further.
Most commonly we always evaluate any low Hemoglobin to find the cause. Iron studies are performed to rule out the presence and severity of iron deficiency and Vitamin B12 and folate assays are performed for Megaloblastic anemia.
So I really need to see the reports for a better comment.
However till the tests are available if you have any doubt in mind you may ask me.
Stay Healthy.
Yes in that case.
Detailed Answer:
Hi. If iron and B12 levels are normal then yes there might be something worrisome. That might be thalassemia.
Get the reports as soon as possible and write back to me.
You can reopen this discussion or can send a query on my name so that it is directed to me only.
Good luck.
