What Causes Lump In The Groin Area?

Question: Female - age 54 - 130 pounds
For the past 6 or 7 weeks I have had a lump in the groin area on my right side.
It started relatively small and would seem to disappear then reappear in a day or so. It is now the size of a small egg and after resting today seems to be somewhat smaller. It is very sensitive to the touch.
I do battle allergies and currently have an ear infection.
I am hypothyroid.
I recently started to exercise but the lump was there before.
I lost 28 pounds over the past 4 months.
No history of cancer in my immediate family.
Brief Answer:
it can be a hernia
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Your groin swelling which reduces on taking rest and comes and goes goes more in favour of an inguinal hernia. Since you are not in pain, it is definitely not an emergency now. However I will insist that you see a surgeon soon. Hernia can be diagnosed only by a clinical examination.
Though it is not an immediate concern, I do not recommend that you ignore it.
Hope I have been helpful.
