Question: A lump in the left side breast, bleeding, type B ultrasonic check shows about 2*3*2, aged 59. As shown in the photo, the purple part is not the problem, the lump is just beneath the nipple. Would like to know the reason, what may cause that? Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
could be malignant

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

At this age, a breast lump which is bleeding and involving skin also (that purple part is part of that lump only or a seperate lump) is a malignant (cancerous) tumor unless proven otherwise.

So you need to show it to a surgeon for a physical examination and a needle biopsy to help reach a correct diagnosis.

Hope I have been helpful. Let me know if you have any doubts.

this lump existed for more than 2 years, she checked 2 years ago and was told that if it's malignant, that can't survive more than 6 months, and 20% possibility this may turn into cancer at that time.
If cancer, does that required to cut all left breast off? and if does so, that can prevent the spread of cancer? Any idea what may cause that? Cause we wonder if we don't know the reason, even cut off all breast is not helpful.
Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
there are various causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry to inform you that whoever told you that cancer patients survive for 6 months only, had told you wrong.

Survival depends upon various factors like type of cancer and its local and distant spread.

Yes, if its proved to be cancer, then it will require to cut off whole of left breast, but regarding its spread, that need to be checked before surgery only. Surgery will be planned after complete evaluation only.

Thats why i had told to show it to a surgeon for proper examination and evaluation.

Regarding the cause, that can be genetic or hormonal. And removal of one breast for cancer, never guarantees that it will not occur in the next one. In fact, it increses the possibility for the second. So regular follow up is very important.
