What Causes Lump In The Neck Along With Painful Neck And Nausea?
Question: Hi, about four weeks ago I woke up unable to move my neck without a cringing, nauseating pain in my neck. I noticed it was below the base of my skull on the left side of the back of my neck. I was unable to move my neck without extreme pain and nausea. Four weeks out, a lump is still there and I am unable to bend my head to allow my left ear to touch my left shoulder or bend my head backwards without pain. I have tried rubbing it spot and it causes nausea. A heating pad does not work, icy hot does not work. I have gone to my general physician but she said it was a swollen muscle and gave me muscle relaxers. These did not have any effect on my neck whatsoever.

The lump in the neck that you have can be due to an infection or a swollen lymph node. The symptoms that you are having are all due to the compression caused by the lump on the cervical spine.
If no infection has been detected by your physician then a muscle cramp is the likely cause.
Avoid using a pillow and avoid all abnormal and painful neck positions. Regular hot fomentation, application of local analgesic gel and muscle relaxants will help in bringing relief in 5-7 days. Do continue with the treatment prescribed by your physician. If the pain continues or lump increases in size then get an FNAC of the lump done to rule out any infections.
