Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of the lump. Possibilities that may need to be considered include lipomas, cysts, bony outgrowth, growths from underlying connective tissue etc.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care

I just wanted to know possible causes other than a blood clot. had two blood tests which showed that enzymes were elevated suggesting a blood clot. Ultra sound did not show any evidence of blood clot---any other results of the ultra sound are not available at this time. The mass is about the size of a quarter; the skin over it is red at times, and my lower ankle and foot swell during the day. I noticed the mass about three weeks ago; it was about the size of a dime at that time. What other tests are needed? What are possible causes of such?
Brief Answer:
FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of lump.
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
Could you please specify where exactly is the lump?
Does it have smooth margins or irregular?
Is the lump is soft or hard?
Is there any discoloration there? Are there dilated enlarged vessels on it?
Is the skin intact/ thinned out?
Does it hurt when pressed on it?
It is better if you can upload the picture of swelling.
FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of lump will be helpful .

Thank you for your reply. The lump is on the tibia, to the inside the left ankle, approximately 1.5 in. above the ankle joint. It has slightly irregular margins, and it is hard. The skin surface of the lump is slightly red at times; other times it is not discolored. The skin is intact, and there is no pain when the lump is pressed. By the end of the day, the ankle around the lump is swollen--mainly below the lump with the swelling extending down into the foot.
Brief Answer:
Ganglion cyst of distal tibia or bony outgrowth .
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
Possible causes could be ganglion cyst of distal tibia or bony outgrowth
I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopaedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected and FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of lump under his/her guidance.
Wishing you speedy recovery.
Warm regards.
