Question: Hi,

My sons umbilical cord felt on 18th day after his birth. Currently there is some part of flesh still left on belly.

I checked with Pediatric and he mentioned that there is some sort of infection present and he prescribed to take taxim 250 injection for 5 days (3 done already) and apply t-bact oinment.

i want to know if the line of treatment is fine or need to be changed, also how long will it take to get it completely cure.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Treatment is in fact more than enough

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me assure you that unless there is foul smell and pus coming out from the navel (where the umbilical stump was attached), nothing needs to be done. It is only if these these are present and if the child becomes lethargic, no antibiotics are usually necessary. But if intravenous antibiotics have been started, I insist that you please complete the course. I do not think that any escalation of antibiotics is essential. Continuing application of T-bact woudl present infection from occurring.

It might last for a week or two more but I would not really get concerned if it takes some more time to dry off, unless the above signs of infection are present.

Hope that helps.

Brief Answer:
It is necessary to take the remaining two.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

In that case, probably intramuscular injections are being given. I would insist you to complete the remaining doses to avoid development of antibiotic resistance.
