What Causes Middle Ear Infection After Child Birth?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Jul 2014
Question: I have a friend who delivered her 1st baby 3months ago. since then she has had high b/p, migraines, vertigo, and spontaneous falling which is preceded by a sign that the falling episode is going to happen. she has been to many specialists. the final dx is Eustachian tubes crystals. not sure what they have given her for treatment. MRI is normal. she also had a severe sinus infection just after the birth. any suggestions on what is going on or how to handle it? could this be from the epidural causing a small spinal leak, needing a blood patch?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be due to spinal leak

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the Day

Dear Ms

The symptoms which is experiencing are either due to

1. Vestibulits( Middle ear infection) : Blockage of Eustachian tube (Tube which connects middle ear cavity with Nasal cavity) usually due to sinusitis can causes negative pressure in middle ear cavity and be associated with vertigo, sense of imbalance ( feeling of about to fall when assuming standing position) . This is due to dysfunction of structures of middle ear and inner ear which are concerned with maintaining balance of body.
2. Rare possibility of syncopal attack

Its unlikely to be due to persistent Cerebrospinal fluid leak. They usually present with dull continuous headache throughout the day, aggravated by assuming standing position.

I would suggest you the folloing

1. Steam inhalation 15 to 20 minutes each session thrice a day will be helpful in relieving Eustachian tube catarrh .
2. Nasal decongestant drop like Xylometazole will be helpful

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
