What Causes Mucus And Blood Clots In Nose Post Septoplasty And Sinus Surgery?
Question: I had a septoplasty and sinus surgery five days ago and was basically told to go home and suffer miserably until I return seven days later for a check up and cleaning (I was not allowed any saline spray or rinses and no office cleanings until day 7). My question is I have a lot of mucous and blood clots just basically hanging from my nose and trying to slide out. The constant moisture and wiping has caused a lot of extra irritation on my already throbbing nose, not mention the added pressure in my nose from the debris buildup. Is it ok to gently remove these clots? I already had one slide out very easily and there was no bleeding.
Brief Answer:
yes you can remove the clots
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Since already a week has passed and you are still having debris and clots, it is actually advisable that you remove them , otherwise you may develop an infection.
You can remove the debris either by saline nasal rinses or irrigation's and will have to meet your doctor, so that he can teach you the correct method.
Please do not blow your nose or use your finger for removing the clots , otherwise it may start bleeding. The debris has to be removed gently and with saline nasal douching , so that it causes minimal trauma and bleeding.
please let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thanks
