Brief Answer:
It can be normal or a result of infection or inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Mucus is a normal content of stools as there are mucous producing glands present normally in the gut, but if this mucus is more than what should have been there as a routine, then it needs to be checked.

This increased amount of mucus is mainly caused by irritation of mucous producing cells which is usually caused by-
1) Infection
2) Inflammation

Both of them would usually cause pain, cramps, irritation, tenesmus as well. If you have no such symptoms and no previous history of any gut problem like irritable bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease , polyposis , then there is a possibility that mucus is not of a major concern, and is caused by some simple reason.

I would suggest you a simple way to deal with it, if you have pain , abdominal cramps or any similar symptom or history do contact your doctor.

If there is no symptoms or history just increased mucus in stools then you can meet your doctor whenever convenient, no hurry , till then you have to increase amount of fluids in your diet, increase fiber in your food and eat vegetables and fruits as a big portion of your food use whole grain bread and XXXXXXX bread , you are expected to see considerable improvement. If the problem still persists , visit your doctor at best time convenient. Although not an emergent situation in my opinion.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask.

Regards.
