What Causes Muscle Cramps From Waist To Neck, Indigestion And Excessive Burps?

Question: I woke up this morning with muscle like cramps from my waist to my neck. Sort of the whole square of my front torso. I did go back to bed and when I got up it was a good bit better. I have had some indigestion. Lots of burping. This is not common for me. I did set thru a football game last night and was not able to move around much and it was quite warm at the game.

Hello and welcome,

It is hard to be absolutely sure based on a description only, but I think the indigestion and belching may be related to taking an aspirin before bed. Aspirin can irritate the stomach lining and if taken immediately before bed, the increased acid may have a chance to cause some reflux.

The cramping thoughout the torso may be from sitting still for a long time in a position you are not used to, such as in bleachers, where there isn't back support.

Today, rest and drink plenty of water; if you are still having the indigestion and burping, consider taking Zantac 150 mg up to twice a day. If you feel the need for further aspirin or ibuprofen for the aching muscles, take it only after eating food (so there is something in your stomach and the medicine doesn't have as much chance to irritate the lining), and not within a couple of hours of going to bed.

I hope this information helps. It sounds like it will be a temporary problem.

Thank you're for your quick reply. I am still feeling a little achy and have the indigestion but the pain seems to have gone away. I just had never had that kind of pain.

Thanks for your help.

As long as the aching is getting progressively better, it should be ok. Do consider the Zantac for the indigestion. It is sold without need for prescription at any drug store. I wrote above that you can take 150 mg twice a day, but the other way to take it is to take both pills (total of 300 mg) at bedtime. This may help you tonight.
