Question: I have been taking generic Celebrex for the last 3 months. During the last 3 days I've consistently had a bloody nose. Is it related?

Brief Answer:
there is a possible risk of bleeding

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Celebrex can be related to the bleeding, especially if you have no previous history of nose bleeds. It is in the family of NSAIDs and there is an associated risk of bleeding with all of these medications.

Even though it may not be the cause, it would be best to discontinue the medication at least for now.

Some other causes would be: (1) infection eg sinusitis, cold/flu . These would cause inflammation of the nasal passages
(2)abnormalities of the blood vessels
(3)allergies
(4)use of medications such as warfarin, xarelto etc that help to reduce stroke, heart attacks in persons at risk

You should consider seeing your doctor for assessment if the bleeding continues. He or she would be able to determine if there is another cause or if the celebrex is the likely culprit.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Yes, I discontinued the Celebrex and the nose bleeds stopped immediately. Does that mean I have a possible kidney issue?

Brief Answer:
not usually related to kidneys

Detailed Answer:
Hi

No, it does not indicate that there are any issues with your kidneys.

Bleeding is a possible side effect of all the medications in this family. It may or may not occur but it is always a possibility.

Celebrex, meloxicam, ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam, voltaren, ketoprofen etc-- may all cause bleeding in some persons

It is related to their interaction with a chemical in the body that is involved in platelet aggregation/clotting.
Platelets are part of the blood and they bind together to stop bleeding, these medications can affect this binding

Please feel free to ask anything else
