What Causes Nausea And Diarrhea When Suffering From IBS And Diverticulitis?
Question: My medical includes 20+ years of IBS, diverticulitis, colon surgery with a "rest" of symptoms for 10 years. For over 12 of the past years I had fainting episodes with hours of nausea before hand and with diarrhea, these occurred 1-2x/year. Last year, after another episode, a NP suggested I have a heart eval; this series of tests were negative except for tilt table with resulted in a flatline/CPR. A pacemaker was inserted and due to a lead making a hole in my heart/open heart surgery, I have had a good recovery. It is now 9 months postop. Did have one episode after pacemaker installed but "something" wasn't turned on and everything should be ok now.
This week I have had an "episode" which is similiar but different from the previous episodes. Some nausea, diarrhea, headaches, overall body weakness, very tired, feel like I could faint but I lay down/feet up and trying to keep water down. Since the pacemaker installation, I monitor my heartrate. With this illness it was in mid 80s to over 100. My husband has not caught anything from me so I don't have a virus.
After all this history, my question is can the vagas nerve still be causing some distress/symptoms? It seems the pacemaker is keeping my heart in a good range but can I still get nasty symptoms?
Thanks for any info.

Brief Answer:
Vagus nerve is unlikely to be cause for symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear XXXX
Vagus nerve is unlikely to be cause for your symptoms.
When pace maker is inserted it paces the heart with pre-programmed heart rate, over riding the Sino-atrial node(SA node) which is the normal pacemaker of the heart. Vagus nerve can only act on SA or AV node and alter the heart rate.
In the presence of artificial pacemaker its unlikely for vagus nerve to have any control.
I hope I have answered your query.
