Posted on Wed, 2 Nov 2016
Question: My husband was hospitalized with bacterial pneumonia last week. He was released 8 days ago. Now he is nauseas, his throat and tongue hurt and does not want to eat. He was diagnosed with RA 20 years ago, and has 6 reputed discs in his back and neck (3 each). So there are other medical problems. I am concerned with the pneumonia right now.

Brief Answer:
Seems more like a fungal infection from antibiotic use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

I read that the chest x-ray its cleared. Also the symptoms you are describing doesn't seem like a worsening of pneumonia but more like a fungal infection from the antibiotic use.

If he has white plaques in his mouth, or sores in his tongue, then I will recommend to treat it as a fungal infection, with local antifungal or even oral tablets if needed. You will need a prescription to take those.

If he has/start having shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, extreme fatigue, then it may be from pneumonia. Otherwise, do not worry.

Hope this is helpful.
