Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Greetings from Health care magic.
Pregnancy is a highly demanding period. The symptoms in question are very common, especially during the first trimester. Mother’s diet and lifestyle modifications have great influence on the fetus.
During the early period, nausea, vomiting and restlessness are common due to the hormonal changes. To minimize the effects, divide her meals into smaller portions and encourage her to take the food more frequently. Take solid carbohydrate rich foods like biscuits, bread and fruits as the first food in the morning as also before the major meals would help in reducing the nausea and vomiting sensation. However, she must avoid fried, spicy and otherwise fatty and heavy foods like patties, pastries or fried food.
There is no crucial need to increase the nutrition intake in the first trimester. However, protein intake is crucial and the increased protein needs can be easily met by including protein foods like milk, and combination of plant protein like pulses, dals, soy, nuts, etc. Include quality chicken and eggs if you take non veg. Avoid fish as they might have mercury contamination.
To meet the additional iron needs, whole cereals, whole pulses, leafy greens, dried fruits, egg and organ meats should be consumed. To get the maximum benefits from these food sources, ask her to take citrus foods like salted lemon water.
Due to the changes in hormones loss of appetite is also a common occurrence. Small and frequent meal pattern with foods that she like to eat would help her. Encourage her to take fresh and seasonal fruits and other healthy food like vegetables, salad, pulses, homemade juices and to stay away from heavy foods like fried food and too much spices.
.
Additionally,
• Maintain variety in the food intake, too much of a single food would provide only one set of nutrients.
• Emphasis should be on small but frequent meals.
• Take fiber and keep her hydrated. Choose from healthy drinks like tender coconut water and fresh fruit juices. Freshly prepared homemade soups are good for her.
• Ask her to divide her work into small parts and do them in a sequence and never to take the heavy work.
• Maintain hygiene and ensure that the food is prepared with extra care.
• Take light walks regularly.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask further questions and for a detailed diet plan, kindly place the request through the Healthcaremagic portal.
