What Causes Night Sweats After Taking Cortisone Injections?
Question: I went to dr. Yesterday and had my second cortisone injection (approx. after 3 months) and immediately felt relief both times in left hip....but this time I couldn't sleep, have had horrible night sweats, breathlessness, racing heart, low blood pressure and a large amount of bright red blood with stool this morning...a lot....not like a spot or two with straining and hemorrhoids. I feel weak, nauseated, dizzy, concerned. It is blood that comes out in a stream, and was entwined all around my stool, and water red, red, red! I've been to bathroom 3 times and it's the same every time. I had been taking tramadol in the two weeks prior to this for a tooth extraction. It finally healed a few days ago. My hip started hurting severely Friday night. Of course it was Labor Day and when I called for an appt. To get into my Ortho doc I couldn't get in until yesterday, so I've been taking tramadol to help with hip pain (it works, but only briefly). Anyway, I did take this the night before my injection and am wondering if I've done something to exacerbate the problem I'm having. A little concerned.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
After going through your entire history I feel that its neither your cortisone injection nor your tramadol that has led to stools in blood , since you give history of bright red blood it is most likely to be hemorrhoids as they can give rise to this kind of severe bleeding.
Palpitations , dizziness can occur as a result of cortisone injection but they will settle with time I suppose . In my opinion you should take stool softners so that it can help with softening your stool consistency and decrease the bleeding . But you will need to see your treating doctor for the same for further management.
Take care.
