What Causes Numbness And Cold Hands While Sleeping?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: I initially was researching possible causes for waking with painfully numb and cold hands; sometimes during the night and others in am. I also have had a marked increase in severe calf and foot cramps. These have been happening several times a day, mostly at night and definitely wake me from sleep. I also wake extremely stiff and have limited movement and back pain in the morning.

Brief Answer:
Pain and numbness/cold hands upon awakening.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your comments on your symptoms. You say that you've been investigating information but I don't see a specific question so I don't know much about what you've discovered, if you've been diagnosed by a doctor or specialist, or if you are now on any treatment for your condition.

You say that you take weekly Vit. D but you don't state how much or when you started taking Vit. D, what your blood levels were prior to starting supplementation, or what those levels may be at this time that you've developed symptoms.

Therefore, perhaps the best I can do in response to your symptoms is to give you general ideas of what I would think and how I might proceed to work someone up with similar symptoms.

I would first want to know details about your vitamin D to make sure you're not overloading since it is a fat soluble vitamin and if you are weekly amounts that are too high compared to your blood levels then, you may develop effects of tissue accumulation and this lead to symptoms of toxicity. You don't seem to have any of the major side effects we generally look for with vitamin D excess but nonetheless I would check it out.

Secondly, I would start looking into getting some tests looking at thyroid and parathyroid panels (more than just TSH or parathormone). I'd include inflammatory markers such as a sedimentation rates, C-reactive proteins, and Rheumatoid Factor. Obviously, electrolytes (especially Calcium and ionized Calcium), and all functional enzymes of the liver, gall bladder, and kidney would be looked at.

And I'd also want at least some plain films to look at what sound to be arthritic joints in the lower back and neck, you can simply upload them in the reports section.

If I've satisfactorily addressed your question then, could you do me the kindest of favors by CLOSING THIS QUERY and be sure to include some fine words of feedback and a 5 STAR rating to our transaction if you feel the response has helped you? Again, many thanks for posing your question.

If you'd like to add some comments and add more information the floor is yours.
