What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In Hands While Suffering From Multiple Sclerosis?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with MS in 2002. Had issues for approximately 2yrs and have been relapsed free since. A month ago both my hands went numb and tingly, four days later my stomach did the same, 3 days following both thighs and feet followed. Now 5 weeks later it is still the same with no change. The numbness and tingling is ever present and does not subside, worses throughout the day, especially in the evening.

In addition to these issues I am constantly freezing. I keep my heat on 82-85 to get some warmth along with heavy PJs.

Otherwise, I am a very healthy, active, 38yr mom.

Wondering if this is MS related. I dont have a primary care physician and am wondering if I need to go to the ER or just continue to wait to see if it will all pass. Please advise

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

If you would have presented to me as an outpatient,I would have advised you that numbness and tingling are very common with Multiple sclerosis(MS).The symptoms you recently had which started with numbness and tingling in hands which stepwise progressed to thighs and feet, most likely is a relapse of MS.Symptoms usually worsen with increased temperature.
Please tell in follow-up what do you mean by PJs?

I suggest you to urgently visit a neurologist, get a Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) Brain with contrast done to see for fresh MS lesions. This is important because you should urgently be on therapy.

Hope I have answered your query for now.If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review.Your rating will be of help to me.
